Technical Insights
Welcome to our Technical Insights section, where we demystify the world of website design, development, and maintenance. Here, we break down complex technical concepts into easy-to-understand language, giving you the knowledge you need to make informed decisions about your online presence.
What does it take to make a website?
Since our services are aimed mainly at people and small businesses that want to enter the world of the Internet for the first time, in this section we explain in a simple way the aspects involved in the operation and maintenance of any website.
1) Domain Name
A domain name is a unique name that identifies a website on the internet. It is like a street address for a website. When you type a domain name into a web browser, it takes you to the website associated with that domain name. For example, the domain name for a Coffee Shop could be: coffeeshop.com.
A domain name consists of two parts: the name and the extension. The name is the unique part of the domain name that identifies the website. The extension is the part of the domain name that comes after the name and identifies the type of website. For example, .com is the most common extension and is used for commercial websites.
It is highly recommended that your domain name is easy to remember and related to your business, but, as time goes by, it becomes difficult to find domains with short and meaningful names, since these cannot be repeated.
To acquire a domain name, you must first verify that the name is available and then purchase it. Domain names expire after one year, so it is necessary to renew them annually, or else ownership of the name is lost.
2) Web Hosting
Web hosting is a service that allows individuals and organizations to make their website accessible on the internet. A web host is a company that provides the technologies and services needed for the website to be viewed on the internet. Websites are stored on special computers called servers. When someone types a website address into their web browser, their computer connects to the server where the website is stored, and the website is delivered to their computer through the browser.
In conventional commerce, the counterpart of web hosting is the physical location where a store is founded and built, where consumers come to purchase items.
As with the domain name, the cost of web hosting is paid annually.
3) Website Design & Construction
Website design and construction are the processes of creating and building a website. Website design involves planning the layout, structure, and content of a website. It includes choosing the color scheme, typography, images, and other visual elements that will be used on the website.
The cost of designing and building a website is a one-time cost and the amount depends on its characteristics, size, functionality and complexity.
4) SSL Certificate
An SSL certificate is a digital certificate that is used to secure a website and protect sensitive information. It creates a secure connection between the client and the web server. When a certificate is installed, it makes the website from HTTP to HTTPS.
The SSL certificate enables the encryption of data which is then sent to the server-side, so that the information that a user captures on the website, travels to the server without it being known by unauthorized third parties.
The SSL certificates also expires after one year, so they must be renewed annually.
